Ice Dancing - Two David and Alicia's ice dancing careers had really taken off under the tutelage of their new coach. This coach was excellent at his job. The pair's synchronization and sensitivity to each other had improved by 100% since they hired him. Formerly doing things their own way which had resulted in hostility, and now willingly following their coach's directions, their ice dancing, their relationship, and their lives, were transformed. This transformation followed acknowledgement of going their own willful ways, letting go of them, and submitting themselves to their new coach. The results were phenomenal. It was as if they were born again. Others began to ask their secret which they gladly shared. It was not as though they were suddenly perfect, but some of the needful things that previously seemed impossible now flowed with amazing ease. Love began to melt away damaging character traits such as selfishness and pride. Other relationships improved as well. "I would never have believed I could have found such peace," Alicia told David. "Nor I." replied David, "I would like to share this secret with everyone I know." "But alas," Alicia said, "even if we tell them, each person must see their own need and make their own life choices." What happened to David and Alicia might seem to you like just a fairy tale. But this story is built on truth. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 53:6, "All of us like sheep have gone astray. Each of us has turned to his own way; but the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity (sin) of us all." When we receive by faith that Christ paid the penalty for our sins and repent, His Spirit comes into us to live (John 14:16-17). And the fruit (evidence) of the presence of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). If we continue to submit to Him, this fruit is made evident in our lives as it was in the lives of David and Alicia. Copyright Daphne Harrington 1999 |
