The Dark Night
It was one of the darkest nights I had ever seen, and
there wasn't much of it left. On my pre-dawn walk, I thought about the many
"dark nights" I have experienced in my life. You might relate
to some of them. The Bible talks about dark nights. I mean the experiential
kind. David, the psalmist, had them. Job had a lot of them. He lost all
his children, his wealth, and his health. And there were many others.
The darkness of these "nights" are sometimes
so overwhelming that you would just as soon your life would be over. Sometimes
it seems as if there is no way out of the situation. You might think there
is no hope and no light anywhere.
But, my illustration does not end there. As I proceeded
with my walk and my musings, gradual changes began to take place around
me. First, a beautiful pink color began diffusing the darkness on the lower
horizon. A little later, the pink in the eastern sky increased and was slowly
transformed into a soft golden light. This caused the shadows to begin to
gradually disappear. At last, the brilliant sun leapt forth, as if it were
eager for the challenge and the opportunities of a brand new day. And with
the appearance of the sun, everything was transformed! Every vestige of
darkness fled.
Whether you can believe it right now or not, dark nights
eventually end and morning comes. So, if you are presently in a dark night
of your own, I want you to ponder these verses today. Don't put it off.
Do yourself an uplifting and potentially life-changing favor. Sit down and
read them from the Bible and meditate on them.
In this world, there is no hope, but when we trust in
Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we have a hope that is an anchor for
our soul (Hebrews 6:18-19). If we learn to take Him at His word, our soul
is anchored, no matter how intense the storms.
Your morning is on its way!
